Overview

NRC5294 is a highly integrated SoC incorporating baseband (MAC & PHY), Sub-1 GHz radio transceiver, and ADC/DAC in a single chip. The NRC5294 is optimized for low power and battery-powered devices, including coin cell operation.  It is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11ah standard, which is the long- range and low-power version of the Wi-Fi standard.  It supports 1/2/4 MHz channel bandwidth, yielding 150 Kbps to 12 Mbps PHY rate that can cover from low-rate sensor to high-rate surveillance camera applications. Self-contained Wi-Fi networking with flexible data throughput and low power consumption offers the ideal solution to add Wi-Fi connectivity to IoT products.

Single embedded ARM® processors, Cortex-M3, in the NRC5294 offers enough processing power to accommodate Wi-Fi subsystem as well as user application in a single Wi-Fi SoC. NRC5294 also includes host interfaces UART and rich peripherals such as general SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, auxiliary ADC, and GPIOs. The low-leakage retention memory can be used to store code and data necessary for fast wake- up from deep-sleep mode.

Security is a key feature of NRC5294, supporting secure boot with several advanced security features, including a cryptographic module, secure key storage, a true random number generator, and a debug port disable mechanism. For the protection of user code in external flash, encrypted XIP mode is supported.

Newracom’s proprietary RF transceiver is a complete radio front-end that is optimized for Sub 1 GHz band. It has a fully integrated PA, fractional-N synthesizer, and the capability to support various commercial external FEM (front-end module) devices. The internal and digitally controlled gain stages at RF and baseband provide low noise figure and large dynamic range of the receiver. Furthermore, the transmitter has more than 30 dB gain range, which offers a wide range of output power.

The NRC5294 is optimized for battery powered IoT applications that benefit from ultra-low sleep current, fast wake up, and high throughput in a low-cost, highly integrated solution.
